Is FACEBOOK to blame for your divorce?
FACEBOOK. It's more and more popular every day. It's a great way to get back in touch with people who have been a part of your life....but is it doing more harm than good?
I was reading in the local paper that FACEBOOK is now cited in 80% of DIVORCES!!! Do you of anyone this is true for??? I guess your significant other is finding their long lost love again...or stupidly posting things that can be used against them in a divorce court battle.

80% may be more anecdotal than factual. I think another study says FACEBOOK factors in to 20% of all divorces. I'm just wondering if you think FACEBOOK has been a good or a bad thing for your relationships?
Joe in Port Richey found out from his now ex-wife's Facebook friend that his wife was moving out and had her own place!! It's all good now though...
One woman called to comment. As far as people cheating on Facebook, it's just an access point. If they're going to cheat they'll find a way. If they have the potential to do that then maybe they should've never been married in the first place.
Kris in Clearwater says it's not Facebook! If there's a flaw in somebody to begin with they're going to find a way to be inappropriate. It's like saying guns are the cause of violence - it's the people using the tools! There is something to the anonymity about the Internet though that brings out this side of people...
Anonymous in Lakeland says her second marriage ended in divorce, not because of Facebook but because of Classmates.com. Her husband found his "long lost love." He looked up someone he'd dated in junior high school across the country and ran off to be with her after 11 years of marriage! Ridiculous!!! He was a police officer and she was a dispatcher and was always one step ahead of him. She got all the evidence to put the nail in the coffin. He even had a profile on ChristianCafe.com and was dating while they were married! But if you're just catching up with old friends there's not harm. The same shmucks that would cheat on you with someone at the bar will use Facebook, but otherwise it's not harmful itself.
Mark says Facebook has ruined the whole Economy and everything in life! Back in the 80s when this country was growing everything was in writing. Now-a-days every one claims they didn't get requests because "Google went down!" What the heck's going on with this country!
John called us and said he has a friend that's going through a divorce and Facebook isn't the only thing being brought up. He says Facebook isn't the 80%, it's more about the Internet and emails through Yahoo and everything else that attorney's can subpoena and use as evidence. People don't realize that all that stuff is archived....even if you delete it they can retrieve it from your computer!
Cathy from Gibsonton says whether you're married or single Facebook is a good thing! She's found a lot old friends to reconnect with! Just because you're married doesn't mean you can't be in touch with old friends. There is such a word as "no."
Chrissy lost her husband to an ex from 20+ years ago thanks to MySpace! They were married about 4 years, together 6. Chrissy's husband was emailed out of the blue by this woman....and he didn't tell his wife about it. But like the other lady, she retrieved every email, every phone record and used it against him to leverage her divorce settlement.

Corey,
Cell phones, IM, email, etc, have all contributed to affairs and inappropriate interactions. But none of that matters in court or in divorce in Florida. There are adultery laws in Florida with monetary and jail time penalties as a consequence. But Florida is a no-fault divorce state. Adultery is so pervasive that the courts will not prosecute and uphold adultery laws because it would clog up the judicial system. Therefore they will also not use that in divorce. I have the emails that my ex used to entice her affair partner but my lawyer advised me that it would do no good in court and actually would probable hurt my outcome because it would irritate the judge that I brought it up. There are only two reasons in Florida that are acceptable to the court for divorce, irreconcilable differences and domestic violence. All the one partner has to say is that they don't get along anymore!!! That's what my ex used. Even though we had a good relationship going on...she enticed someone else to enter our relationship thinking she could handle it, hide it and have a little fun on the side until I found out about it. Now my kids and his kids are involved with the ugly side of divorce.
